May 2014
I had been looking forward to shooting Katy and Emrys’ wedding at Shrigley Hall for some time. It’s a fab venue with some unique photo opportunities, but Pott Shrigley certainly does have its own micro climate and I have been rather unlucky in the past with the weather. As it turned out Katy & Emrys were blessed with a perfect day of absolutely glorious spring sunshine.
It always amazes me how often couples who tell me that either one or both of them hate having their pictures taken turn out to be absolute stars on the day, and so it turned out with Emrys. I like a challenge and I could see at our pre-wed meet that he wasn’t too comfortable in front of the camera. Spontaneity was the name of the game we played and I was amply rewarded with more than enough shots where he looked truly relaxed and happy.
Katy & her four Bridesmaids prepared themselves at Katy’s family home and the Boys conveniently got reading only a stone’s throw away. This allowed me to get shots of them all by arriving a little earlier than normal. It was definitely a case of safety in numbers and if there were any pre-wedding nerves they certainly didn’t show!
The ceremony was held at the light and airy St Catherine’s in Didsbury. From there the drive to Shrigley Hall Hotel took about half an hour down some of the prettiest of country roads, so I arrived refreshed and renewed, and ready to get my teeth into the Bride & Groom pictures. We had wisely elected to do these first to save time while all the guests were arriving and booking in. Katy wore the perfect dress for two of the shots I had in mind, the one taken under the cupola at the top of the stairs, and the second of her silhouetted against the long window in the Tilden Suite. As always there were other shots of the Bride and Groom I would have liked to have done but as usual the group shots take longer than you think. Respect to Rob, the Best Man, who did an excellent job of rounding everyone up.
The Wedding Breakfast in the Tilden Suite was bathed in the most beautiful light as the soft evening sun shafted through the windows above, lending the run-up to the evening reception a magical air. Shiny, happy people with wild dancing to follow. A memorable wedding and one I really enjoyed shooting.
