“I just wanted to take the time to say thank you very much for taking the photographs at our wedding. You did a brilliant job and I love the photographs that have already been put up online. I think you got a really good mix of the guests. Thank you for everything, James and I are very grateful to you.”
Emma & James, Davenport Green Hall, 26th October 2013
More, more, more! These kind words make me one very happy photographer. But Emma and James and all their guests were such a happy crew that they made my job an easy one. Having such a handsome couple to photograph helps a teeny-weeny bit too!
Davenport Green Hall is a fab venue. They style things really well (just look at all those candles during the ceremony, so romantic), have a lovely Japanese garden right there which is great for pictures, and is just the right size, neither too big nor too small. With 150 guests all up for it Emma & James’ wedding celebrations were a real blast.
With my couple living in London it wasn’t possible to have our pre-wed meet until a couple of days before the wedding, and that together with the iffy late October wedding made me a little apprehensive. I needn’t have worried. Emma was organised and exuded calm. I had a gorgeous Bride and a handsome Groom. There were going to be five Bridesmaids and only a few group shots. My sort of wedding!
With Emma and her five Bridesmaids getting ready at her parents’ house in Wimslow and James and the Boys at a neighbour’s only a couple of doors down the pre-wed shots worked out beautifully. As usual the Girls had everything under control, but the Boys ……! They managed the cufflinks ok but had to resort to YouTube for the cravat tying. Hilarious! Still, they arrived at Davenport Green Hall in plenty of time and soon had the guests seated into the Old Barn just in time for the ceremony.
One of the advantages of a late-season wedding can be the soft golden light and we were blessed with it for a short while in the late afternoon for the Bride and Groom pictures. The vertical shots of Emma & James surrounded by a bed of autumnal leaves are some of my favourites.
This was a wedding full of spontaneous energy, helped by the younger than usual age mix. It was also unusual in that quite a few of the guests come from a musical background so there were several really good musical events going on during afternoon, giving the celebrations a unique flavour. The unique flavour continued through the evening with live music from the brilliant Tuxedo Swing band which got everyone on the dancefloor. Brilliant day, brilliant evening, brilliant wedding!
